Post Diagnostic Support

One-to One Post Diagnostic Sessions
These are individual sessions with your child. They can be used to help your child make sense of what being neurodivergent means for them. It is an opportunity to ask any questions or raise any worries they may have. It is important that they come to understand the strengths and gifts that come with being neurodivergent and that they have space to explore the challenges they experience.

The aim of these sessions is to help foster acceptance, to enable your child to view being neurodivergent as part of their identity and not as a limitation. This can support them to embrace their unique strengths and to learn how to navigate challenges, fostering a positive self-image and increased resilience.

Family Post-Diagnostic Sessions
As a family, you play the most crucial role in caring for your child and advocating on their behalf. Family sessions may involve a mix of parent (or caregiver)-child sessions, parent/caregiver-only sessions, sessions with siblings, and one-to-one sessions with your child.

Family-centred interventions aim to foster conversations about neurodivergence, highlighting your child's strengths alongside the challenges they encounter. As a family, you can support your child in developing strategies to navigate difficulties they may face. These resources empower families to understand and cater to their child's unique needs and strengths. Furthermore, the sessions seek to provide strategies for effective communication, which can enhance family dynamics.

Adapted Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Navigating environments that are not well adapted to the needs of neurodivergent children, or feeling misunderstood by peers and other adults, can lead to distress. This distress may contribute to a decline in mental health.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) possesses a strong evidence base for treating a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, panic, low mood, OCD, and post-traumatic stress, among others. Adapted CBT is a flexible, child-centred approach tailored to meet the specific needs of neurodivergent children. It focuses on helping them understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected, and supports them in changing unhelpful thought processes or developing practical strategies that can assist them. This may include practical skills for managing emotions, reducing anxiety or challenging behaviours, and improving social understanding. Sessions are customised to your child's specific needs.

Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a therapeutic approach that assists neurodivergent children, including those with autism, ADHD, or sensory processing differences, by training their brains to self-regulate activity. Using real-time feedback from electroencephalogram (EEG) readings, children can observe their brain wave patterns and learn to influence them through engaging activities or exercises. The focus often lies on enhancing specific brainwave frequencies associated with attention, calming, or sensory regulation, depending on the child's needs. Numerous studies suggest that neurofeedback can facilitate improvements in attention, emotional regulation, impulse control, and sensory processing. As a non-invasive, drug-free option, neurofeedback provides a safe and accessible means for neurodivergent children to harness their unique strengths and better manage challenges, thereby promoting increased self-confidence.

Neurofeedback also has a strong evidence base for reducing mental health symptoms and can be used in conjunction with traditional therapies to enhance effectiveness and shorten treatment duration.
